Student resident at C houses yesterday went on a rampage to
protest against lack of electricity over the place, burning the bush on the
fence to alarm comrades and relevant authorities of their grievances which for
a long time have gone unheard.
According to the
protestors, electricity has been in the residence for nearly two weeks ago. There endless trips to the janitors office
bore no fruits, and yesterday they had to apply the law of the jungle. The police
on hearing tension amongst the protestors came in to take control of the situation.
Lucky enough, the managed the furious students before things got out there
hands.
Could it be rationing? Could the university have failed to
pay the bill? Nobody amongst the students knew the exact cause of the frequent
blackouts. There has been a series of electricity blackouts experienced within
the university recently. The situation worsened a day after valentines where
there was blackout from 4.00 pm to around 2.00 am. As if this was not enough, there
came a major blackout at 3.300 pm but the presence of K.P.L.C around the same
time assured most that things would be alright before darkness. However,
nothing happened even an hour past 7.00 pm arousing chaos and tension amongst
the students.
“We have a lot of assignments to attend to. CATs are also
waiting yet we cannot do anything constructive in darkness. We are also
dependent on electricity for food. Our endless patience and plea have been
betrayed by the authorities. We cannot continue suffering yet every time you
fail to a single coin means you will not take examinations,” said Willy, a
resident of the house in question.
Actions speak louder than words. The authorities promised
eventually to reconsider their problem. Who knows whether they are making empty
promises like they have done in the last two weeks. Time will dictate.
if the institution is unable to pay for electricity let them inform students, after roll there is nothing good if you are accommodated in university hostels, the rooms are tidy, full of cobwebs, screaming beds, rough floors, open sockets,no window pens, everything is just worse. wanadhani the environment is conducive for us.am tired of being called everyday by my parents to just assess if all is well with me.
